 In
1887 J.A.R. Elliott discovered live wing shooting on his prairie
home in Ohio. Little did he know his love for the sport and national
championship talents would be shared by his brother Bob Elliott
and later, son Russ. Moving to Kansas City in the late 1880's,
J.A.R. and Uncle Bob started the first of several shooting parks.
This property was the last of the Elliott operation. While J.A.R.
went on to become "The Great Elliott" on
the national trapshooting circuit and enshrined in the National
Trapshooting
Hall of Fame in Vandalia, Ohio, Uncle Bob and Russ maintained the
park. They hosted tournaments in Raytown that featured Annie Oakley,
Ernest Hemingway, Roy Rogers, and others.
Today, long past the years of J.A.R. and family, the name lives
on in the Elliott Place Retirement Apartments, situated on
30 acres of the
old grounds. We are proud to be a part of the link in the legacy
of this family, and believe the designers of Elliott Place captured
its essence in four luxurious facilities built in 1999.
With lavish dining room areas in sunlight colors, decked in
gorgeous wood wainscoting with massive centerpiece fireplaces,
Elliott himself
would be pleased to call it home.
