Q.
What was Elliott's Shooting Park?
Elliott's
Shooting Park, which opened in 1887, was one of the world's oldest
trapshooting
facilities. The park started out at a site on the Blue River, then reopened
at 9500 E. 75th Street in Raytown, MO on March 10, 1934. Clay targets
replaced live quarry in 1955.
The business was truly a family affair. J.A.R. Elliott started it. An
uncle, Bob Elliott, invented an unusual collapsing box to release live
game. Other family members were excellent marksmen.
Efforts by the Kansas City Trapshooters Association to save the park
were unsuccessful. Elliott's closed Nov. 17, 1985. Developers currently
plan to build a retirement community on the site.
